Studies show that a person’s thoughts impact their physical health. Negative thoughts and worrying cause stress which causes inflammation which leads to health issues.
Having positive, happy thoughts decreases stress which decreases inflammation which leads to better health.
Basically, what is the point of worrying and thinking negatively? No one else can read your mind and know about it. It doesn’t help you in any positive way, so it sounds like a bad habit that is good to break. Unfortunately, the negative thinking is easier and that’s what the brain leans towards, so it takes some work to think positively. Focused, positive repetition will help rewire the brain. The key is as soon as you notice you are thinking negatively, start thinking about something that makes you happy, visualize being someplace you like or repeat positive phrases in your mind. Keep at it because it takes a long time to rewire the brain to think mostly positive thoughts.
Meditation also helps as it actually strengthens certain areas of the brain. It helps with focus, managing stress better and quiets the brains random nonsense chatter. Meditation also makes it easier to pull out of the chatter when it does happen.
There is an author named Colin O’Brady who was injured and told he wouldn’t walk again. After a talk with his mom, he set a goal for himself to run a triathlon. Doctors thought he was crazy, but with a positive, determined mindset he overcame the injury, ran the triathlon and actually won. Pretty inspiring!
Challenge:
Try paying attention to your thoughts. Whenever you notice negative thinking, repeat the word tranquility.
